Meg Whitman’s maid faked her identity to get hired and she said her boss knew about this. With the election just a few away, the story is breaking at an inconvenient time for the Republican running for governor of CA. During her campaign, Whitman has been forcefully promoting severe penalties for businesses that employ undocumented workers.
Unlawful house maid for Meg Whitman, for nine years
The news came out at a press conference Wednesday. At the press conference was attorney Gloria Allred and Meg Whitman’s Mexican maid, Nicky Diaz Santillan. The New York Daily News reports the former Whitman maid claims she was fired only after the candidate realized an undocumented worker would be a liability through the advertising campaign. Whitman was not ignorant to the belief that Diaz Santillan was an unlawful immigrant, reports Allred. She wanted the cheap labor the house maid provided and so pretended to know nothing. Allred went on to say her client was “disrespected, humiliated and emotionally and financially abused.” Whitman is being sued by Diaz. What is wanted out of it is reimbursement for mileage and unpaid wages.
Some state ‘a political stunt’ is at hand
The Social Security Administration is reported by Allred to have in 2003 sent Whitman a letter informing her that Diaz Santillan had a different name than was on file for the Social Security number provided. As outlined by the Houston Chronicle, Whitman had something to state about this. She stated there wasn’t ever a letter like this sent to her. The Whitman campaign came out defending Whitman. The statement said that five months after Whitman decided to run for governor, in June 2009, Diaz Santillan stated she used her sister’s paperwork to get hired in an odd confession of sorts . As outlined by Whitman’s campaign, Allred is attempting to influence the November election with this political stunt. Whitman seems genuinely sad for her maid. She said, after a San Jose, California event, “I feel terrible for Nicky. … She’s being manipulated.”.
Immigration that is illegal
It appears interesting to consider a few of the platforms Whitman is running on for governor of CA. She wants to implement fines to anybody hiring unlawful immigrants within the state. The Washington Independent reports that some political analysts think Allred’s allegations will hinder her campaign’s efforts to reach out to California’s large Latino population. She also will likely be branded a hypocrite.
